Personalize the function first

Set dimensions for the kitchen, choose one or two working faces, and decide whether the board needs feet, handholds, or a groove. These choices change daily use more than decorative details.

Define the pattern and wood

Choose a limited palette and identify the main, contrast, and accent woods. Approve a dimensioned pattern rather than a mood board. Natural colour and figure will vary, so separate the fixed geometry from the acceptable material variation.

Place engraving outside the main work

Ask the maker which face and area are suitable for engraving. Confirm text, spelling, capitalization, type style, size, alignment, and orientation in one final proof. Keep it clear of grooves, feet, handholds, and heavily used cutting areas.

Approve the exact text. A screenshot or written proof prevents ambiguity in names, dates, and punctuation.

Final approval list

  1. Finished dimensions and approximate weight.
  2. Pattern orientation and wood species.
  3. Edge, corner, groove, feet, and handholds.
  4. Engraving proof and placement.
  5. Natural variation accepted from the stock.
  6. Price, schedule, delivery, care, and repair terms.
